Description

It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the 17th France–China Particle Physics Network/Laboratory Workshop (FCPPN/L 2026), which will be held at the Institut de Physique des Deux Infinis de Lyon (IP2I-Lyon) from June 29 to July 3, 2026. We warmly welcome you to attend the workshop and to contribute with a scientific presentation.

The France–China Particle Physics Laboratory (FCPPL) was established in April 2007 through an agreement between the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), CNRS, and CEA. Its primary objective is to promote and strengthen cooperation between France and China in particle and astroparticle physics. Since its creation, numerous collaborative research programs have been developed and supported within this framework.

In 2024, FCPPL evolved into FCPPN/L, combining an International Research Network (IRN) with an International Research Laboratory (IRL) hosted on the IHEP campus in Beijing. This new collaborative structure brings together a community of approximately 460 physicists and engineers, involving 18 CNRS joint research units across 14 French universities and engineering schools, and, on the Chinese side, CAS institutes (IHEP, NAOC, PMO, USTC, UCAS) together with 23 universities.

The scientific scope of the FCPPN/L collaboration is broad and encompasses particle and hadronic physics, neutrino physics, astroparticle physics and high-energy astrophysics, cosmology, accelerator physics, as well as theoretical physics and accelerator, detector, and computing technologies, all aimed at advancing our understanding of the Universe through joint efforts.

The IRN framework enables partners to collaborate using world-class research infrastructures, including, among others: LHC experiments at CERN; KM3NeT in France and Italy; LSM (Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane) in France; JUNO (Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory), CJPL (China Jinping Underground Laboratory), LHAASO, and GRANDE in China; as well as SVOM, a joint Franco–Chinese space mission.

The main objective of the 17th FCPPN/L Workshop is to present, review, and discuss ongoing and future activities carried out by French and Chinese scientists within the FCPPN/L framework. The workshop will further strengthen our research collaborations and foster scientific exchanges, paving the way for continued and enhanced cooperation.

We look forward to welcoming you to Lyon.

With best regards,
The Local Organizing Committee

Distinguished Lecture by Prof. Yifang Wang (IHEP Director and JUNO Spokesperson) - Physics of Neutrinos: Portal to the Future of Particle Physics

Neutrinos are fundamental building blocks of matter, with a huge abundance in our Universe. Their tiny masses and too weak interactions with other particles make them extremely hard to be detected. Fortunately, they have a peculiar property called oscillation, namely, neutrinos can change flavors from one type to another during their flight. I will introduce what have been learnt from neutrino oscillation and our efforts at the Daya Bay and JUNO experiments, as well as our first results from JUNO recently. I will conclude by elaborating future prospects of JUNO and other neutrino experiments in the world.

      Speaker: Yifang Wang (IHEP)
