We're looking forward to hosting 2024's edition!
Registrations are closed except for Erasmus/Erasmus+ candidates.

  

The goal of the school is to introduce Particle Physics and Astroparticle Physics to 3rd and 4th year undergraduate physics students while at the same time touching on the latest results and challenges in these fields. For about a week, students will be immersed in an international research atmosphere, and will be able to spend time and discuss at length with scientists working in the field. There will be lectures on both the theoretical and the experimental sides of LHC Physics, Neutrinos, Flavour Physics, Astroparticle Physics (dark matter and cosmic rays) and Gravitational Wave Physics. There will also be hands-on sessions as well as students’ presentations on their own work/topics of interest.

Courses will be in English. No background knowledge on the topics covered beyond a popular science level is required. However, a strong basis in Quantum Mechanics and a good knowledge of Special Relativity are expected.

A maximum of 40 students will be admitted. Accommodation and lunches will be provided for free during the length of the school. The participant (or his/her university) is expected to assume the costs of travel and of 6 or 7 dinners.

NEW! This year, the School is eligible for Erasmus+ funding: to benefit of this financial support, students should contact their local Erasmus coordinator/International Relations office and apply for travel funding through the Erasmus+ programme. Please, be aware that the GRASPA application deadline for students who have applied to Erasmus+ funding is anticipated to May 1st.

After attending the school, Erasmus+ students will be requested to carry group work remotely on a topic/project proposed by the school organisers. This work will be presented by the students at an online event at the end of August, and will be assessed by a jury. This procedure is mandatory for Erasmus+ students and leads to the award of ECTS points, if the assessment is passed succesfully.

The school takes place at LAPP and LAPTh, world-class research laboratories just 40 km away from CERN. The laboratories are jointly hosted by the CNRS and the Université Savoie Mont Blanc. They are Enigmass Laboratories of Excellence, members of the Initiative of Excellence Université Grenoble-Alpes and partners of the International Doctorate Network in Particle Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology (IDPASC). The LAPTh is also a partner of the Centre for Theoretical Physics of the Grenoble-Alpes region (CPTGA).     

Both LAPP and LAPTh are located in Annecy-le-Vieux, in the French Alps. The medieval city of Annecy is known in winter for its proximity to several ski resorts, and in summer for its beautiful lake.
