L'édition 2010 de la Rencontre de Physique des Particules aura lieu du lundi 25 janvier à 14h00 au mercredi 27 janvier à 17h00 à l'Institut de Physique Nucléaire de Lyon. Les participants, particulièrement les jeunes, sont invités à présenter leurs travaux lors d'exposés de vingt minutes. Nous vous invitons donc à vous inscrire sur le site, en indiquant notamment le titre et le résumé de votre contribution, avant le 10 janvier. Nous prévoyons également un certain nombre d'exposés de revue ainsi qu'une table ronde sur les perspectives de notre discipline. The participants are invited to give 20 minute presentations of their work (in the language of their choice). People wishing to speak should indicate the title and abstract of their presentation when they register. Preference will be given to postdocs and students, and to those who register prior to January 10th. Some reviews on topics of recent interest, and a general discussion of the perspectives of the field are also planned.       In this talk I will discuss some implications of higher order operators (dimension 5 and 6) on the MSSM spectrum. In particular I will state how the effective parameters appearing in those operators are constrained by current measurements, and how we can use the allowed range of those parameters to vary the masses in the Higgs, neutralinos and charginos sectors.

      Impact of squark generation mixing on the search for superpartners at the LHC Amphi Dirac

      In supersymmetric models beyond minimal flavour-violation, generation-mixing terms in the squark or slepton sector can be sizeable. These off-diagonal entries of the corresponding mass matrices affect both the production and subsequent decay of SUSY particles at colliders. I will discuss scenarios that agree with the relevant experimental constraints and where the branching fractions of squarks into charm- and top-quarks are simultaneously large. I will the present recent results on the production of squarks and discuss possibly interesting signatures at the LHC.

      I will talk about a class of models where the light Higgs boson, 100 GeV or less, is consistent with all existing LEP constraints.       I will discuss the phenomenological consequences of Hypercharge Anomaly-Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking at the LHC. This string-inspired model combines a U(1) form of mediation with anomaly mediation to provide a viable pattern of MSSM masses and interesting signatures at the LHC.

      Gravity waves from cosmological first-order phase transitions Amphi Dirac

      First-order phase transitions proceed by nucleation and expansion of bubbles filled with a new phase of the medium. An example in particle physics is given by the transition in the early Universe from unbroken to broken electroweak gauge symmetry. At the end of the phase transition the expanding bubbles collide and partially release their energy into gravitational wave radiation. I will focus on two aspects of this process: 1) The energy budget using hydrodynamic considerations. 2) The spectrum of the gravity waves given by geometric considerations and computer simulations.

      The MSSM with GUT-scale degenerate Higgs masses Amphi Dirac

      An interesting class of UV completions of the MSSM gives rise to a specific structure of the Higgs mass matrix. Namely, in such models the diagonal and off-diagonal Higgs mass parameters are degenerate at the GUT scale. We explain the origins of this structure from higher dimensions, and we discuss some examples. We also present a numerical study of the phenomenological prospects of such models: By imposing Higgs mass degeneracy as a GUT-scale boundary condition for the RG evolution of the MSSM parameters, we can confront the emerging low-energy phenomenology with present experimental constraints.

      Gravitino Dark matter and BBN Amphi Dirac

      Supersymmetry is an elegant extension of the standard model that presents many interesting features such as interesting candidates for dark matter. I will focus on the case of a stable gravitino as the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). Models with a gravitino LSP can also solve the lithium problems linked to big bang nucelosynthesis (BBN). Predicted abundances in the standard description of BBN are incompatible with observations. If the decay of the next to lightest supersymmetric particle into the gravitino occurs during BBN, the lithium problems can be solved.

      A Dark Matter candidate from Lorentz Invariance in 6 Dimensions Amphi Dirac

      I will present the unique 6 dimensional orbifold with chiral fermions where a stable dark matter candidate is present due to Lorentz invariance on the orbifold, with no additional discrete symmetries imposed by hand. We propose a model of Universal Extra Dimensions where a scalar photon of few hundred GeV is a good candidate for dark matter. The spectrum of the model is characteristic of the geometry, and it has clear distinctive features for the LHC phenomenology compared to previous models of Kaluza-Klein dark matter.

      SUSY GUTs with Yukawa Unification in the light of data Amphi Dirac

      After a short overview of the hypothesis of Yukawa Unification within SUSY GUTs, I report on its viability in the light of the predictions for quark masses, EW precision data and FCNC processes. In particular, I discuss the phenomenological difficulties existing when universalities for the soft SUSY-breaking terms at the GUT scale are assumed, and how these difficulties can be overcome in simple and robustly motivated scenarios of non-universalities. Finally, I discuss the falsifiability of the latter scenarios at forthcoming experiments, primarily the LHC.

      Cosmology is to some extent a search for 'relics' of earlier phases of the Universe. A famous example of this is the is the cosmic microwave background. Another observational signature which would allow us to probe even earlier epochs of the Universe is a background of gravitational waves. In my talk I discuss the characteristics of the gravitational wave background we might expect from a first order phase transition in the early Universe and I outline the prospects of its observation.

      Constraining dark matter scenarios with CMB Amphi Dirac

      I will show how it is possible to use CMB observables to put constraints in different types of DM parameter space. In the case of self-annihilating DM the constraints are particularly strong, competitive with local, multimessenger ones. This method offers the advantage to get rid of astrophysical uncertainties and rely only on cosmological quantities and might have interesting consequences on our understanding of high redshift Universe as well.

      It has long been feared that the presence of turbulence in supernovae would erase the characteristic features in the neutrino signal of the next Galactic supernova that would have allowed us to determine fundamental properties of the neutrino and observe the explosion while it is still deep in the star. We examine the effect of turbulence upon the neutrinos and find that the damage to the signal is not as great as feared and that turbulence might also leave its own characteristic fingerprints in unexpected places.

      Inflation from Phase Transitions in Scalar-Tensor theories Amphi Dirac

      Inflation with tunneling from a false to a true vacuum is viable in the presence of a non-minimally coupled scalar field. As a by-product this field also sets dynamically the value of the Planck mass, which can be exponentially large. Therefore along with Inflation we also suggest a natural dynamical explanation for why gravity is so weak today. Moreover we predict a spectrum of gravity waves peaked at around 0.1 mHz, that will be detectable by the planned space inteferometer LISA and we discuss interesting predictions on cosmological scalar and tensor fluctuations in the CMB. Finally we discuss possible ways of making the additional scalar compatible with late-time constraints.
