DMLab Meeting II

Europe/Paris
Main auditorium (DESY)

Main auditorium

Notkestr. 85, 22607 Hamburg, Allemagne
Description

Dark matter is one of the great puzzles of nature: according to current estimates, more than 85\% of the matter in the universe is in the form of dark (only gravitating) matter, of which today we know nothing. Any discovery of new physics will be related directly or indirectly to dark matter: by discovering a dark matter particle or by measuring fundamental properties in models providing a dark matter candidate. Dark matter is also likely related to gravitational waves and multi-messenger astroparticle physics.

The International Research Laboratory (IRL) DMLab between the CNRS/IN2P3 and the Helmholtz association which will focus on the theme of dark matter.

To address various challenges in dark matter physics the IRL is structured in six topics: direct dark matter searches, multi-messenger particle physics and gravitational waves, novel accelerator concepts, computing and data science, particle detector technologies, and theoretical physics.

The DMLab --- a laboratory situated outside France -- will be located at DESY, which will act as the scientific and administrative hub, and extend over three other Helmholtz centres (FZJ, GSI, and KIT). The lab will act as a centre for french-german collaboration in areas of research connected to dark matter.

In the  meeting first joint projects, described in the IRL white paper, will be discussed as well as ideas for new projects.

A list of hotels is here (taken from the recent ECFA workshop). It is easiest and cheapest if you book via their webpages or booking sites.

The closest hotel next to DESY is the Mercure Hotel Hamburg Volkspark , which is located about a 5 min walk from the rear (Luruper Chaussee) entrance of the DESY campus. Note though that after 7pm the rear entrance is closed and you will need to take a longer walk using the main gate.

For a bit more upscale accommodations you may want to look at the Landhaus Flottbek. It is located in a former farm building, offers nice rooms and a restaurant on site. Public transport from the hotel is a bit awkward, but it is only a 15min walk, or you may use the rather convenient IOKI shuttle service (sorry, Web page in German).

A bus drive away in Altona the Hotel B&B is an option.

Public Transportation in Hamburg:

  • Timetable and useful information : https://www.hvv.de/
  • in general you will have to pay cash
  • the HVV AG App allows you to buy tickets (a receipt is provided via mail) which are saved in your phone. You can pay with your credit card. You may need to create a user account (for the mail etc)
  • If you buy a ticket with the App you get a small discount
  • Zone: A+B is usually correct (the App will help you get the right ticket)
  • After 9am: the 9am daily ticket (valid until the next morning) could be a good choice
  • "Hamburg Airport" to "Zum Huehnengrab (DESY): take S1 to Othmarschen (all S1 stop there), then take  Bus <1> (Direction Rissen, Sieverstuecken,...) to the DESY stop (it's the 5th stop)
  • Surgical Masks are compulsory when using Public Transportation

Entering DESY: you can enter DESY without showing an ID, the security service only checks cars and is there to help you.

AUDITORIUM: take a left at the first roundabout, the auditorium is behind the first building, the cafeteria is across the street.

CAFETERIA and CANTINE: first floor, cash only, no credit cards accepted

Participation in the meeting: please register, if you have an indico account, the link will be visible, for the others the zoom link will be sent by mail about an hour before the meeting starts.
