Description

The Horizon Europe OSCARS project will be officially launched on 13-15 March 2024 in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Started on January 1st, 2024, OSCARS aims at fostering the uptake of Open Science in Europe by consolidating the achievements of world-class European research infrastructures in the ESFRI roadmap and beyond into lasting interdisciplinary FAIR data services and working practices.

The project will strengthen the role of Science Clusters in the European Research Area by developing domain-based competence centres and promoting the implementation of Open Science projects funded through a cascading grant mechanism.

The OSCARS kick-off meeting will bring together the scientific communities of the five Science Clusters and all project partners to define the work plan and the inter-cluster synergies to be deployed in the different work packages (WPs) during the first 12 months of the project.

The event will start on 13 March with a joint meeting of the consortia of the two main EU Science Cluster-led projects, OSCARS and EVERSE. The members of the two consortia will jointly discuss areas of cooperation and plan common activities for the two projects.

The OSCARS kick-off meeting will start in the morning of the 14th of March. The coordinators of the Science Clusters will set the scene, by describing the status of the work and future plans for their cluster’s competence centres, Virtual Research Environments (VREs) and the benefits of EOSC for their cluster. The work package leaders will then give a quick overview of their planned main objectives, tasks and activities for the first 6-12 months of the project lifetime and the key interfaces with other WPs and other projects/activities.

The afternoon will see mixed groups working on detailed work plans/next steps for the work on Competence Centres and VREs, but also potential cooperation areas with other projects and initiatives. There will also be a session dedicated to communications activities and how best to reach OSCARS’ diverse stakeholder group.

On the 3rd and last day of the event we will launch the 1st OSCARS Open Call for Open Science projects. After a presentation of the Open Call, we will be opening the floor to the audience, for questions from everyone interested in the Calls.

WHY ATTEND?

The event will bring together scientists and staff of Research Infrastructures from all Science Clusters (Environmental Sciences, Astronomy, Nuclear and Particle Physics, Photon and Neutron Science, Life Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences), and some representatives of key stakeholders, to:

Discuss potential inter-cluster cooperation areas and coordinated activities with EVERSE;

Discuss and fine-tune the OSCARS work plan with all project partners, to further develop the cluster-based Competence Centres and Virtual Research Environments (VREs) supporting collaborative scientific research, with a highlight on the benefits RIs will have from the EOSC.

Learn about the opportunity given by the 1st OSCARS Open Call for Open Science projects, which will be launched on the 3rd day of the event.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

The first two days of the event are open to EVERSE and OSCARS partners and contributors, as well as to the scientific communities from all European and national RIs in the Science Clusters.

On the 3rd day, researchers from all scientific domains are welcome to attend, to learn about the OSCARS call for Open Science projects, and to raise questions and get useful answers to apply.

The open day event is open to members of other EOSC projects and initiatives, other initiatives linked to the Science Clusters, pan-European e-infrastructures, scientists from all domains and RIs’, representatives of ESFRI, the EOSC Association, and other EOSC projects and initiatives.
