France and Mexico share a long and fruitful history of collaboration in science, particularly in the field of astronomy. Building on this partnership, the two countries have joined forces to develop and operate COLIBRI, a state-of-the-art robotic telescope dedicated to exploring the deep and the transient universe, particularly within the Franco–Chinese SVOM mission.
To give this collaboration a lasting framework, France and Mexico have established the International Research Program (IRP). Its mission is to promote the scientific exploitation of COLIBRI — from the study of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) to the observation of supernovae, gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), kilonovae, and more — while fostering the emergence of new ideas and collaborations. The program is supported by CNRS, CNES, and AMU in France, and by UNAM and SECIHTI in Mexico.
The next workshop, “Enjoy the Universe with COLIBRI!”, will be held at Observatoire de Haute-Provence from December 1st to 4th, 2025. Participants will share the latest news and scientific results from COLIBRI, which has been in operation since January 2025, and discuss the new opportunities this telescope offers for exploring the dynamic sky.
