Social events

All participants are invited to attend three social events:

Welcome cocktail in the City Hall of Clermont-Ferrand on Tuesday 8th evening

Clermont-Ferrand is notably famous for hosting the Michelin company which is among the largest tyre manufacturers in the world. Michelin is also known worldwide for its Red and Green travel guides, its roadmaps and the so-called Michelin stars that the Red Guide awards to the best restaurants. Clermont-Ferrand is also famous for its cathedral located next to the City Hall. This is a striking Gothic edifice built of black lava stone in the 13th and 14th centuries.

Workshop dinner on Wednesday 9th

The workshop dinner will take place in the restaurant "La Hutte Gauloise" on the "Plateau de Gergovie". It is located a few kilometers on the south of Clermont-Ferrand. This is the location of the Battle of Gergovia, which pitted Vercingetorix against the Roman legions of Julius Caesar in 52 BC. The plateau offers an excellent view over the Puys chain.

Excursion on Thursday 10th afternoon

The excursion will consist of a visit of the "Puy de Dôme", one of the Auvergne's most famous dormant volcano in the Puys Chain. The "Puy de Dôme" is located 15 kilometers on the west of Clermont-Ferrand. It reaches up to an altitude of 1465 meters and offers an unbeatable view across the Puys chain and the surrounding landscapes. It is the second natural most visited place in France with nearly half a million visitors per year. On 19 September 1648, Blaise Pascal carried out an experiment on the summit of "Puy de Dôme" to evidence the existence of atmospheric pressure. Access to the summit is done by means of a dedicated train. We will reach the train station by bus. After the excursion we will visit the tourist center of Clermont-Ferrand.
