Accomodation and meals

Participants will stay in cottages or mobile homes within the holiday village of La Vieille Perrotine. Each participant will be assigned a private bedroom, while the bathroom will be shared with one other participant. Each lecturer will be assigned a private bungalow for their exclusive use. As part of the pre-registration process, participants may request to share their accommodation with a specific person.

Meals will be served at the village restaurant, where special menus can be provided upon request (during the registration). The accommodations also include a fully equipped kitchen, allowing participants to prepare their own meals if they wish.

Access to the school

La Vieille Perrotine is a unique venue located on the beautiful island of Oléron. Its charm comes with one small drawback, however: getting there is not entirely straightforward.

1) By train:

This is the most convenient travel option.

La Rochelle TGV station has direct connections to Paris.

The EJC organizers will arrange a shuttle service from La Rochelle station to the venue. The shuttle schedule is given below. Additional practical information will be provided after registration, including the meeting point and the procedure for booking a seat on the shuttle.

The most convenient train connections from Paris Montparnasse are the following (based on the previous edition):

  • (Arrival)       Paris Montparnasse → La Rochelle: 13:35–16:18, Sunday, September 13

  • (Departure) La Rochelle → Paris Montparnasse: 15:45–18:43, Friday, September 18

2) By plane:

Participants may travel via Paris, with onward connection by TGV to La Rochelle (see above). Another possibility is to fly to Bordeaux Airport, from which a limited shuttle service to the venue will be arranged. Participants interested in this option are kindly asked to contact the organizers as early as possible

3) By car:

You are on your own !

4) "free" EJC bus shuttle information:

The EJC organizers will provide a free shuttle service between the venue and the main arrival/departure points.

Arrival — Sunday, September 13

  • La Rochelle train station → Oléron: 16:45–18:00

  • Bordeaux Airport → Oléron: 15:00–17:30/18:00 (maximum 7 passengers)

Departure — Friday, September 18

  • Oléron → La Rochelle train station: 13:30–15:00

  • Oléron → Bordeaux Airport: 13:30–16:00/16:30 (maximum 7 passengers)

If you are not travelling by car, we strongly encourage you to plan your journey so that you can make use of these shuttle services.

5) Other public transportation:

If, for any reason, you cannot arrange your travel so as to use the shuttle services, public transportation options are also available. Please note, however, that these alternatives must be organized independently.

In particular, bus line 155 runs from La Rochelle to Saint-Pierre-d’Oléron and Dolus-d’Oléron, both located near La Vieille Perrotine. We may be able to pick you up from one of these stops. The bus ticket costs only a few euros and can be purchased directly from the driver.

6) Other private transportation:

You are of course welcome to arrive by bicycle or, for the more adventurous, by swimming across the Pertuis d’Antioche from La Rochelle. Needless to say, the organizers decline all responsibility for such an undertaking.

Additional vacation stay

You may also choose to extend your stay on Oléron before or after the school. In that case, you will need to contact the holiday village directly to book your accommodation. Please note that any extra nights will be at your own expense, and you will need to arrange your travel independently for those additional days.
