ASTROVIBE - Astrophysical Studies of Time delays fROm Violation of Lorentz Invariance and Blazar Emission

Description

In recent years, research aimed at constraining a violation of Lorentz invariance, in search of potential effects of quantum gravity, has led to precise studies of the rapid variability of astrophysical sources (AGN, GRB) in function of their energy using data from Cherenkov observatories. These endeavors to produce constraints on the violation of Lorentz invariance are based on the assumption that no intrinsic delay at the source is expected.

The purpose of this workshop, by pooling knowledge from different communities (AGN, GRB, LIV), is to provide avenues for reflection on the following questions:

What are the predictions of AGN and GRB emission models regarding energy-dependent time delays?

Can these predictions be tested using the same methods as LIV on current and future data?

Is such a constraint on energy-dependent time delays useful for understanding the mechanisms at work within AGN and GRB?

According to AGN and GRB models, what are the ways to distinguish between quantum gravity and astrophysical effects?

These avenues of reflection will enable the production of a budget request to the ANR to exploit the insights and potential answers that will emerge from this workshop.
