Description
The third edition of the IN2P3 School Of Statistics gives an overview of the concepts and tools used in particle physics, astro-particle physics and cosmology when probabilities and statistics come to play. In particular, this edition is dedicated to the use of multivariate discriminants in the framework of data analyses performed in collider physics. This school is targeted towards PhD students and towards senior physicists, aiming at extending their knowledge and skills in the field of statistical tools and frameworks developed for their fields. The school takes place in Autrans from Monday 28th of May to 1st of June 2012. The lectures are subdivided into three parts: a part reminding the fundamental concepts used in Probabilities, Statistics and Hypothesis testing applied to physics analysis; a part focusing on the presentation of the concept and basis of most popular multivariate techniques and used in data analyses; and a part dedicated to actual multivariate tools and framework dedicated to data analyses in High energy Physics.
Lectures will be given partly in english and partly in french (Fundamental concepts, Boosted Decision Tree, theory of multivariate discriminant) The School of Statistics is funded by the IN2P3.

L'école SOS est consacrée aux méthodes statistiques d'analyse des données, employées en physique subatomique, en astroparticule ou cosmologie observationelle et dans les domaines connexes tels que l'imagerie. L'édition 2012 est la troisième de cette école. Alors qu'une première partie des cours constitue un rappel des concepts de base, une seconde partie se focalise sur un thème particulier : les méthodes d'analyse discriminante multivariées. L'école s'adresse à la fois aux chercheurs expérimentés et ceux qui le sont moins. Les premiers pourront consolider leurs pratiques avec un retour sur les bases mais aussi découvrir ou approfondir de nouvelles méthodes. Les seconds découvriront les concepts et techniques fondamentaux ainsi que ceux plus avancés. L'école sera majoritairement en français, mais quelques intervenants s'exprimeront en anglais lors de leur session.
Cette école fait partie des Ecoles Thématiques de la Formation Permanente IN2P3.
