Study of transient phenomena with the first large CTAO telescope

After quickly introducing the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) and the first Large-Sized Telescope of the array, the LST-1, I will detail the working principle of the Bending Model, a code used to ensure a systematic pointing error low enough to satisfy the requirements of the collaboration. I will show how what are the idea I follow to optimize it and gain observation time.

Then, I will focus on my second thesis subject; the analysis of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs). Those extremely energetic events are characterized by their short duration, which makes their detection really challenging for atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. I will show that the currently used statistical test, aiming to decide whether a GRB signal has been detected, is not well suited for this kind of source and present alternative methods that could allow CTAO to increase its ability to detect GRBs.

Measurement of the electroweak diboson production in the W±Z channel, with the ATLAS detector at LHC

This presentation summarized the work for my first PhD year. First, the presentation introduces the audience to the VBS process, why it is important and what is its signature in the detector. Then, it proceeds with the QCD background modelling studies that were performed using the MG5_aMC@NLO MC generator. Moreover, it briefly discusses the work I have been doing for my Qualification Project, related to improving diboson simulations. Finally, it shows some preliminary results and discusses next steps that need to be followed.
