Here we list some practical information which make your stay in Nantes easier.
Something to eat :
You will certainly be hungry in the evening. Apart from various fast-food places or supermarkets you might prefer a restaurant. You find a link of excellent places to discover here.
The weather :
Nantes at the end of October is in-season autumn, so expect rain and wind mixed with milder phases of sunshine. Prepare yourself for the best season of the year if you like collecting colored leafs and jumping into rain puddles. Here is a link to the weather forecast which for the moment predicts partly cloudy or clear with plenty of sun on Wednesday and Thursday in between 18° and 20° Celsius (64 to 68 F).
Moving around in Nantes :
When you arrive in Nantes at the train station you are already in the city centre and therefore presumably close to your hotel and a place where you get something to eat. In case you arrive at the airport of Nantes you will have to go to the city centre first. You can certainly take a taxi which can easily cost you 30,- Euro. Alternatives are taking a bus called "Navette" (marked with an airplane) which costs 10,- Euro or a combination of regular bus and tram lines (bus number 38 plus the tramway or bus number 98 plus the tramway). Your travels within the city using public transport can easily be managed with the App "Naolib bus and tram" (which works in English if your phone's language setting is English). Tickets can be bought with the App on your phone, or from the vending machines at the bus and tram stops (the machines have an English language option), or from the bus drivers (more expensive). A ticket is valid for 1 hour (changes included). You can buy the tickets either single (costs 2 Euro) or in a bundle "carnet" of 10 (costs 1,75 Euro for 1 ticket; the link is to show you how the ticket looks like).
Getting to and from the venue :
The workshop takes place at IMT Atlantique. The corresponding bus stop is "Chantrerie - Grandes Écoles" of the bus lines C6 and 75. The bus line C6 is a "Chronobus" line and very convenient for getting back and forth between the city centre and the venue with frequencies of 5 to 8 minutes during peak hours and 10 to 12 minutes out of peak hours. It runs from 5:00 in the morning to 00:30 in the night. The bus line 75 is connected with the city centre either via the tram line 1 (change at Beaujoire) or via the tram line 2 (change at Recteur Schmitt).
How to stay connected :
Believe it or not, we do have Eduroam at the institute.
How to charge your computer :
The power plug sockets used in France are of type EU Plug - Type E/F.
