Practical details

Conference site and access

The conference venue is the Amphithéâtre Charles Mérieux at site Monod of the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, place de l’Ecole, 69007 Lyon

It can easily be reached by

  • the Metro Line B, which connects the ENS de Lyon (stop ‘Debourg’) with the main train station ‘Part Dieu’.
  • the Tramway T1, which connects the ENS de Lyon (stop ‘ENS Lyon’) with the Confluence district, the train station ‘Perrache’ and the city center.

Public transport (TCL) in Lyon

Note: Due to construction work, on Sunday 24, the Metro Line B Service only starts operating at 1pm. Similarly, from Monday 25 to Thursday 28, the Metro Line B Service ends at 9:15pm. It is replaced by a Bus Service (one bus every 10 minutes). Besides this Bus Service, the following Metro Stations which are on the south part of Line B can be reached by other means: Saxe-Gambetta by Metro Line D, Jean Macé by Tramway T2 and Debourg by Tramway T1.

Note: Due to construction work, the airport shuttle will be replaced by a bus service every night after 9:30pm from Monday 25 to Thursday 28.

There will be no TCL public transport on Sunday, May 1st (Labour Day). On this day, the airport shuttle will be replaced by a bus service all day.

Conference dinner

The conference dinner will be held on Wednesday 20h00 at the Brasserie Georges. The brasserie is located at 30, Cours de Verdun, in the city center, near the train station Perrache (access is a little complicated, check the map).

Information on the COVID situation in France (subject to changes, please check regularly):

upon arrival in France:  Proof of a complete vaccination scheme is sufficient to enter France, regardless of the country of origin. Unvaccinated travellers are required to present a negative test upon arrival, however, this requirement may be lifted for travellers arriving from countries with a moderate circulation of the virus ('green countries’) listed here.

public life in Lyon:   Most COVID restrictions have been lifted in France. However, wearing a mask is still mandatory on public transport in Lyon. A simple chirurgical mask is sufficient (an FFP2 mask is not required).

in the lecture hall:  There are no restrictions for entering the campus of the ENS de Lyon. However, for your own protection and that of the other conference participants, we recommend to wear a mask in the lecture hall while attending the talks. Furthermore, hydro-alcoholic gel will be provided at the entries to the lecture hall.

upon leaving France:  Please check your country’s regulations for your return. General information can be found here. Some countries may require a recent Antigen or PCR test (see below) for entering the country or boarding a plane.

Covid tests:  Antigen and PCR tests can be obtained close to the conference site, at Laboratoire d'analyses médicales, 229 rue Marcel Mérieux. Tests are taken between 9h00 and 17h00, there is no need to take an appointment. Results may take up to 24 hours.

For further information, please either ask the organisers or consult the government website.

Hotels

Several hotels are within walking distance from the conference site, e.g.

Given the sanitary situation, we recommend making cancelable and refundable reservations.

Other suitable hotels can be found by the standard hotel booking sites

  • along the Metro Line B, which connects the ENS de Lyon (stop ‘Debourg’) with the main train station ‘Part Dieu’.
  • along the Tramway T1, which connects the ENS de Lyon (stop ‘ENS Lyon’) with the Confluence district, the train station ‘Perrache’ and the city center.
  • a little further away in the city center (Presqu’île or Vieux Lyon) from which the conference site can be reached by combining metro and tramway.

With the first hotel in the above list Lyon Gerland we could make a prereservation of 10 two-room apartments for a price of 89 euros per night, breakfast (for one person) included (if a second person wants breakfast, one needs to add another 12 euros per breakfast). This hotel is really walking distance to the ENS. Also it is well-suited to be shared, due to the fact that it consists of two connected rooms (often the living room has a couch that can be turned into a bed, to be confirmed upon reservation). Somewhat further away Park Lane (about 30 minutes of public transportation according to google maps), there are 15 further such small apartments prereserved for a price of 75 euros (breakfast included, 8 euros for each second breakfast). In both cases please mention the code "eurostrings" when making the reservation.
