Description
We use lattice manipulation algorithms to determine the possible non-abelian groups that can be realized as gauge symmetries in the heterotic string compactified on $T^d$ with $d = 1,2,3,4$. We extend these results to the rank reduced gauge groups that correspond to asymmetric orbifolds of these compactifications which preserve supersymmetry, and find a map connecting all the rank reduced groups with those of maximal rank.
