First Announcement
Welcome to the Fifth International Conference on "New Developments in Photodetection"
The 2008 edition will be held at:
Palais des Congrès de Aix les Bains
France
June 15-20, 2008

This meeting is organized by the « Direction des Sciences de la Matière » (DSM-CEA) jointly with the « Institut National de Physique Nucléaire et de Physique des Particules » (IN2P3-CNRS).
The Conference will be devoted to the latest developments of photodetection techniques and systems for Physics and Astrophysics as well as Biology, Nuclear Medicine and Industry.
Topics
Topics will cover recent developments achieved in both well-established and emerging photodetection technologies by the use of photomultipliers, solid state radiation detectors, gaseous photodetectors, hybrid photodetectors and new sensing media.

The conference aspires to provide a forum for discussions on specific use of photodetectors in various applications. The program will emphasize the progress foreseen in the near future with regard to the technology and system aspects paving the way to the ultimate photodetection systems (e.g. pixel arrays, front-end electronics, signal/image processing, etc..).
Program
The conference will open with three general talks addressing the current challenges in Physics, Astrophysics and Nuclear Medicine.
The conference oral presentations will be given in specialized sessions organized by topic. Each session will start up with an introductory overview talk. A permanent poster session, held in the coffee break area, will expand the oral sessions on the same topics. In the end, a round table will take place with the participation of company representatives, engineers and scientists.
Prior to the conference, some tutorial lectures of 90 minutes each will be given.
During the conference, a permanent industrial exhibition will take place, demonstrating the new products from photodetectors, materials, systems and associated electronics manufacturers.
Social events will be organized.
