Description

The three-body recombination rates in cold atomic gases typically exhibit certain universal features --- often referred to as Efimov physics --- which can be described within a model-independent theory using only very few of the low-energy parameters of the inter-atomic interactions. In this contribution we specifically consider recombination into expressly non-universal deep dimers. Even in this case the model-independent theory can quantitatively describe the rates by introducing a finite-range phenomenological 'optical potential'. We discuss the implementation of this approach and the resulting interplay between the universal and non-universal properties of the recombination rates, particularly in the systems of atoms with different masses.
