Description

The MEG experiment at PSI is searching for the possible lepton flavor violating decay of a muon into an electron and a positron with unprecedented sensitivity. The existence of this decay would represent an unambiguous sign of new physics beyond the Standard Model. The current best world upper limit of 2.4 x 10**(-12) on the branching ratio of the mu->e gamma decay was published by MEG in 2011. In this talk we present new results based on twice the statistics used in that publication. The current status of the experiment and its future upgrade projects will also be discussed.
