Description
Lepton dipole moments contain rich contents of physics processes in quantum loops. Among them, muon, being a self-analyzing and long-lived particle, offers unique opportunities to test theories beyond the standard model as well as fundamental symmetry. We are preparing an experiment for precise determination of anomalous magnetic moment (g-2), and search for electric dipole moment (EDM) of muon at J-PARC, Japan. The experiment has recently been granted a stage-1 approval by the program advisory committee for nuclear and particle physics experiments at the J-PARC.
The experiment measures positrons from muon decay with a Silicon-strip tracker. The Silicon-strip tracker needs to satisfy rather unique requirements to realize the determination of g-2 with 0.1ppm precision, i.e. no change in magnetic field, no leakage electric field, immune to rate change, precision time stamping. In this seminar, conceptual design of the tracker and R&D status are presented.
