Description
Gamma-ray bursts are among the most violent events observed in the
universe; their progenitors could also emit copious amounts of
gravitational waves. After a general introduction to gravitational
wave physics. I will discuss in detail the astrophysics of gamma-ray
bursts progenitors, which are the coalescence of neutron stars or black
holes and extreme cases of stellar collapse, both from the photon and
gravitational wave emission points of view. I will present also the
latest results from the LIGO and Virgo gravitational wave detectors
and discuss the prospects.
