30th EEB Meeting - April 2025
Discussion on EOSC Federation evolution
MV
@MR : interesting difference. In fact, that is how I tend to view ESCAPE so far – mostly focusing on innovation and creating services, but not really operating them.
MR
Indeed MV, it is a distinction in scope that was pretty clear throughout the meeting. The other thing to mention is that it's pretty clear that there is no additional funding foreseen for Nodes, so that the participating entities need to support the Node activities out of their existing budgets. This is highly contentious, of course, and may change in some future, but if, when and how is completely open at this stage …
MV
that is not new, and has been flagged as vulnerability before, especially within ESCAPE I think
I would like to know how the current first tranche of EOSC nodes have addressed this
E
@GG do you have feedback on this from a CERN perspective?
GG
I agree with the angle about escape as a technology incubator, so more on the innovation side than other. However, this doesn't prevent us from
-
Providing operational support for our services deployed elsewhere. This is one of the mandates of a competence center imo
-
Try and become an infrastructure hosting and operating services. Funding needed though
This is a view I have both about CERN and escape
MV
Thx! I'm entirely on board w/ #1, and #2 is possibly feasible for some ESCAPE members. Bueno.

@MV @MA Is there a particular contact or website for this Network of Networks discussion on INFRASERV 2027 calls please? I would like to refer this to ACME colleagues in case they are not aware, though it's certainly possible they're already aware.
