Description

This is a brief synopsis of of the evolution of laser research in Pakistan, and discusses how a small group (founded by the author in the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission) has developed first into the Optics Laboratories and now into the National Laser Laboratory. The presentation will also highlight collaboration with CERN and Pakistan's contributions in the CMS Tracker. These include the Position Monitoring System, RPC Chambers, Automated Rod Testing, Fabrication of the CMS 'feet', and the TOB Frames in Pakistan. The modules of the Position Monitoring System were designed and fabricated in Pakistan and have been incorporated successfully in the CMS. The impact of CERN will be evaluated as well as some current developments and directions in Pakistani Physics.
