This is the second ββ-France workshop. In this one day dedicated workshop, we aim to review mainly the experimental panorama - present and future - including R&D efforts within France. Beyond reviewing both the experimental and theoretical status of the field, we shall have dedicated descriptions of ongoing experimental efforts SuperNEMO and CUPID and current R&D efforts such as (alphabetically) DARWIN-ββ, LiquidO-ββ and R2D2 projects. We shall finalise with some discussion about possible common points and synergies.
The ββ neutrino-less decay (ββ0ν) is a fundamental nuclear process expected only if neutrinos were Majorana particles; i.e. the neutrino being its own anti-particle. There is wide theoretically motivation behind this hypothesis including vast phenomenology. However, ββ0ν remains experimentally unproved. Therefore, the ββ0ν search is a compelling subject of fundamental neutrino research to establish the most profound nature of neutrinos with major potential consequences to our understanding of the Universe as of today. Also, a positive ββ0ν decay may provide one of the most sensitive measures of the neutrino mass.
The event will take place in IJCLab (Orsay), but given the current COVID-19 restrictions, a ZOOM access is also possible.
