Description

Usual electron or ion sources have an energy dispersion range within the 100 meV. By using ionization of neutral atoms we expect to reach ~1 meV. This can be obtained using Cs atoms, previously set at Rydberg states, and ionized under a high gradient electric field. This approach will enable the realization of a bright and mono-energetic ion/electron sources. By using position and time correlation between individual ion/electron pairs we could have a complete control over the time, position and velocity. All these studies, sometimes performed in collaboration: academic (ISMO, CEA/SPEC, University of Mainz, …) or with private companies (Orsay Physics, Muquans, AzurLight Systems), makes possible focusing mono-energetic beams to small spots. Applications are functionalization, microscopy imaging, implantation, spectroscopy …
