Description

In the context of the SPIRAL2 project at GANIL, the DESIR facility (Decay Excitation and Storage of Radioactive Ions) will propose to users an experimental hall to exploit low-energy exotic beams from SPIRAL1 and S3-LEB, in order to measure ground-state and isomer properties of atomic nuclei in unexplored regions of the nuclear chart. These new measurements will allow to study the structure of exotic nuclei, the fundamental interactions driving their properties as well as their formation in the Universe. Interdisciplinary research is also foreseen.
In this talk, the physics opportunities with the future DESIR facility will be described and the status of the project will be presented regarding transport beam line, infrastructure and supply integration studies. In addition, beam preparation devices are under construction at CENBG, in order to provide high-quality beams to the users, a crucial requirement to reach the precision of the aimed experiments. The status of the development of an RFQ cooler and buncher (GPIB for General Purpose Ion Buncher), Penning traps (PIPERADE for Pièges de Penning pour les Ions Radioactifs à DESIR) and a High Resolution Separator (HRS) will be given.
