Jerôme Beugnon (LKB): "Two-dimensional Bose gases in custom-shaped potentials"

Cold atomic gases are an ideal platform to investigate quantum many-body systems in and out-of-equilibrium. In this seminar I will review recent experiments realized on atomic clouds confined to two dimensions and with a custom in-plane shape. I will focus on quench cooling experiments across the Bose-Einstein condensation phase transition and on the investigation of the Kibble-Zurek mechanism in this situation.
