Description
DarkSide-50 is dual-phase liquid argon TPC, designed for direct WIMP search. The TPC, consists of 50 kg of liquid argon and is installed at the Gran Sasso underground laboratory. The detector is surrounded by active neutron and muon vetoes. In this seminar we will present the first physics results of Darkside-50 obtained with atmospheric argon, naturally contaminated with cosmogenic 39Ar. During the 47.1 days of data taking, more than 10^7 beta decays from 39Ar have been observed. Thanks to the excellent nuclear-electron recoil discrimination power of liquid argon and to the high efficiencies of the vetoes, no events entered the WIMP region of interest. We will also present the status of the deployment of low radioactivity underground argon, depleted of cosmogenic 39Ar, and the future plans of the DarkSide experiment.
