Description
The composition of ultra-high energy (UHE) cosmic rays with energies > 100 PeV is still unknown. The observation of UHE photons would extend the observed electromagnetic spectrum to highest energy and open a new channel for multimessenger observations in the universe. In this seminar talk, the search for UHE photons is introduced with special attention to recent results from the Pierre Auger Observatory located in the Argentinean Pampa Amarilla. In a multivariate analysis characteristic features of photon-induced extensive air showers are utilized to search for diffuse photons as well as for photon point sources.
