Séminaire: Room for New Physics in ( B --> D* tau nu_tau ) decay

Abstract: I discuss the present situation concerning the theoretical and experimental studies of $B\to D^{(\ast )} \ell\nu$ decay modes. Recent experimental data for these decays with $\tau$-lepton in the final state revealed a significant discrepancy between theory and experiment. A joint effort from both sides (theory and experiment) is needed to clarify the source of this discrepancy. I will briefly explain the importance of new methods used to compute the relevant decay amplitudes by means of QCD simulations on the lattice and show in what way the new results help taming the theoretical uncertainties. I will then show how one could test and study the presence of physics beyond the Standard Model from a dedicated study of the full angular distributions of these (semileptonic) decay modes.
