Description
The cold dark matter (CDM) component of the Milky Way halo may consist of low mass (micro eV-meV) pseudoscalar particles called axions, which are a consequence of the Peccei-Quinn solution to the strong CP problem. Axions of this mass range would have extremely weak couplings to standard-model particles as well as to both axionic and nonaxionic dark matter, rendering them effectively collisionless. Prof Karl Van Bibber from the Department of Nuclear Engineering (UC Berkeley) kindly accepted to speak about the search for such particles performed within the The Axion Dark Matter eXperiment (ADMX).
