Description
In this seminar, I will discuss how b-jet triggers enhance the physics potential at the LHC. The b-jets acceptance is increased and the background reduced by lowering jet transverse energy thresholds and applying b-tagging techniques. Different physics channels, especially topologies containing more than one b-jet where higher rejection factors are achieved, benefit from requesting this trigger to fire. Emphasis will be given to the present status of the art of the online b-jet selection with an overview of the main analyses where these triggers offer the best signal acceptance. In particular, the H->bb channel, being the dominant Higgs decay mode in the nowdays-narrow allowed mass region, produced in association with a top-quark pair or a Z boson and searches beyond the Standard Model involving the top quark production.
