European Summer Campus 2011 - Between two infinities "Particle Physics, Astroparticles and Cosmology"

Europe/Paris
Description
The European Summer Campus of the Université de Strasbourg (UdS) is a prestigious one-week meeting of students from all over Europe. They attend lectures on some of the most recent research topics in physics presented by internationally known scientists. An important part of the programme consists in exploring the cultural and political heritage of the region of Alsace and Strasbourg, where the European Parliament and the Council of Europe are located. The European Summer Campus 2011 is organised by the Physics Department supported by the Institute Pluridisciplinaire Hubert Curien (IPHC) and the Astronomical Observatory of the Université de Strasbourg (UdS) in collaboration with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) under the title "Between two infinities", from the physics of elementary particles to cosmology. The subject is well motivated by the brilliant re-start of the LHC collider in 2010 with many first results and great perspectives and the recent discoveries at large terrestrial and space born telescopes on cosmic rays, dark matter and important advances in cosmology. Now open for applications until June 1st, 2010 Motivation for students The idea of the 2011 European Summer Campus is to offer to the students an enthusiastic and pedagogical introduction to the most recent research subjects. The lectures will be given by researchers recognized internationally in their field. Scientific Programme The scientific programme will consist of 15 main lectures of 2x 45 minutes each, student workshops organised at several research laboratories, round table discussions and a poster session at the UFR Physique & Ingénierie.
