These lectures will provide a pedagogical review of the physics expectations at the TeV scale, for a mixed audience of theorists and experimentalists. The Standard Model, its supersymmetric extensions and alternative proposals for new physics will be critically discussed, with emphasis on their present plausibility and their possible signatures at the LHC.
