Description
Inelastic and production cross sections are crucial inputs for predicting nuclear cosmic-ray fluxes in the Galaxy. Deuterium (²H) and helium-3 (³He) are both expected to be produced solely by interactions of heavier nuclei with the interstellar gas, yet recent AMS-02 and Voyager data are in tension with this picture. In this context, it is natural to revisit the relevant nuclear cross sections. Using several compiled datasets (EXFOR, HEPData, PDG), we derive new data-driven nuclear models based on 1D or 2D Gaussian processes. This method provides uncertainties together with their correlations.
