Description
The energy–energy correlator (EEC) has emerged as a precision jet substructure observable which separates the perturbative, confinement, and free hadron regimes of QCD along a single angular variable. We present a new measurement: computing the EEC between two reconstructed B hadrons inside bb-jets. This observable selects the g → bb topology, an antenna configuration with interesting and distinct QCD dynamics, and gives direct sensitivity to the gluon to heavy quark pair splitting function and to heavy flavour fragmentation [arXiv:2508.19404]. The measurement uses the CMS Run 3 proton–proton reference dataset at √s = 5.36 TeV. The two B candidates are reconstructed from b-tagged jets with at least two secondary vertices, using a BDT track selection, and the signal is isolated through a template fit in the invariant mass of the two B. After purity and efficiency corrections, the detector-level distribution is unfolded to particle level. After applying systematics, we have the final EEC distribution, confrontable with theory.
