Description
One of the signatures of the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP), and its associated quark deconfinement, is the suppression of quarkonia production in heavy ions collisions due to the color screening effect.
With the addition of the Muon Forward Tracker (MFT) in Run 3, the ALICE experiment can now distinguish prompt from non-prompt quarkonia production at forward rapidity. The prompt component comes from the charmonia produced at the earliest time of the collisions, experiencing the whole evolution of the medium. The non-prompt component originates from B hadron decays, providing access to the beauty sector and allowing comparisons between open and hidden heavy flavor hadrons.
The quarkonia yields measured in AA collisions and in pp reference collisions, both at $\sqrt{s_{AA}} = 5.36$ TeV, allow to measure the nuclear modification factor $R_{AA}$. This factor quantifies the effect of the QGP on quarkonia production, and can be compared to theoretical models of heavy quark interactions in the medium. In this poster presentation, I will describe my thesis project of measuring prompt and non-prompt quarkonia production in pp and AA collisions at forward rapidity at ALICE using the MFT detector.
