Description
We will query the diverse Strasbourg Astronomical Data Centre (CDS) services to gather information about carbon stars. The tutorial can be re-used for any other kind of data hosted in the CDS.
This tutorial uses the databases via webpages and with python interfaces. We will use:
- The SIMBAD database which provides curated data and cross-identifications for objects outside of the solar system,
- the VizieR datbase which is a homogenized way of accessing tabular data and catalogues from the astronomical literature and archives,
- the CDS cross-match service X-match,
- the sky (and planetary surfaces) visualization software suite Aladin.
