Practical information

Reaching Strasbourg and the Observatory: Strasbourg is well connected to the french, german and swiss railway system, with in particular direct high speed connections to a number of cities in France, Belgium and Germany as well as to Paris CDG airport. A direct bus connection relates Strasbourg to Frankfurt airport and there are a few plane connections directly to Strasbourg.

The Strasbourg astronomical Observatory is located on the central Campus of the University, in walking distance to the historical city center, see here for details. It can be reached conveniently by tram lines C - direct connection to the main train station in about 15 minutes-, E, F with stops "Université" or "Observatoire". The entrance to the Observatory is at 11 rue de l'Université, the other access (rue de l'Observatoire) is closed. The presentations will take place in the amphithéatre of the main building.

For your accomodation, there are many hotels easily reachable from the Observatory, available on all standard booking platforms. We recommend that you choose your hotel in the city centre (cathedral, Place Saint Etienne), the Krutenau or on the Malraux peninsula. These areas are close to the conference and will allow you to reach the university in less than 15 minutes on foot. For more distant areas, the use of public transport is recommended. Some suggestions

  • Okko hotel: on the Malraux peninsula, close to the conference and in a new area with bars and restaurants on site. Close to the city centre.
  • Hotel Roses: in the Krutenau district, a student area close to the centre and the university. Lively area in the evenings with bars and restaurants.
  • Hotel Strasbourg Le Kléber: on the Place Kléber in the heart of the city centre.
  • Le Couvent du Franciscain: in the city centre, 10mn walk from the train station and the cathedral.
  • Hotel Suisse: at the foot of the cathedral.
  • The people: in the Krutenau district.

Please keep in mind that the number of rooms is limited in particular during sessions of the European Parliament. We thus recommend that you book as soon as possible.
