Description

What can AI tell us about human societies? More specifically, what could
be done (and what should not be done) with LLM in social science
research? Among the various artificial intelligence technologies, the
latter are often seen as the most promising today. They are being used
to conduct surveys based on synthetic data, in silico experiments (using
computer simulations), and even studies of past eras.

Based on a series of experiments and reflections, this presentation
assesses the plausibility of the proposed solutions. It shows the
advantages, limitations and possible ways forward. After an overview of
the use of LLMs in the social sciences, this presentation will show how
artificial intelligence can be used to further our knowledge about society.
