Description

Anomalies determine the fate of symmetries upon quantization, with consequences that permeate broad areas of both experimental and theoretical physics. In this talk, I will first provide an overview of the concept of anomalies, paying special attention to the breaking of the Weyl symmetry and showing some applications. Then, I will introduce an ongoing discussion: is it possible to define an object in a general quantum field theory which, when evaluated for conformal theories, reduces to the trace anomaly?
