Gravitational Waves Physics using Ground Based Interferometry: Now and the Future

After a short introduction on Gravitational Waves and their detection, 

I present the status of the existing LVK experiments and their future prospects for upgrades. I will discuss at length the next generation experiments with special emphasis on the Einstein Telescope, its physics potential and the process of the ongoing preparatory phase.
