(3+1) Dirac fermions with ultra-cold atoms on optical lattices

Description
I discuss a cold-atoms set-up able to simulate (3+1) Dirac fermions and I show the possibility to add a tunable mass,
an external e.m. effective coupling and some internal interactions, also covariant.
This system can be used for many applications, relevant both in elementary particle and in condensed matter physics.
Finally, I discuss the 2D limit, showing that, by using an anisotropic lattice, it is possible to obtain (2+1) Dirac fermions.
