Particle Physics in Paris

Cosmology and Unification

Description

I will review how future measurements of primordial Non-Gaussianities in the CMB, Large Scale Structure and 21-cm cosmology can probe very heavy particle physics, with masses of order the Hubble scale during inflation, possibly as high as ~ 10^14 GeV. I will then apply this approach to the most plausible targets, namely our most ambitious gauge-Higgs theories and extra-dimensional theories, such as Orbifold Grand Unification, “dark” gauge theories, and the Standard Model itself, allowing us to probe a variety of spins including the spin-2 Kaluza Klein graviton. I show how the Hierarchy Problem of the Standard Model becomes an asset in this context, readily allowing its particles to have the requisite Hubble-scale masses during inflation, via the mechanism of “heavy-lifting”.
