Description

Dark matter interactions with matter are, with the exception
of gravitational interactions, unknown experimentally. A useful
organizational principle in this case is provided by effective field
theories (EFT). These are especially useful in the case of dark matter
direct-detection experiments, where the momenta exchanged are
significantly smaller than the cut-off of the effective theory - the
chiral perturbation theory. In the talk I will present results on
non-perturbative matching from the theory of dark matter interacting
with quarks and gluons to the theory of DM interacting with nucleons, as
well as the renormalization group running from electroweak scale to the
low scale, including double weak insertions. I will also cover the
extension to EFTs for nonstandard neutrino interactions, as well as give
several examples of processes in which the EFT description does not apply.
