The International Conference on Strangeness in Quark Matter (SQM) is taking place in Buzios, Brazil this year. Recent results on measurements of strangeness, heavy flavour and quarkonia in heavy ion physics are discussed in this conference every year. In this seminar a survey of selected news and recent results on ultra-relativistic heavy ion physics is presented. In addition recent advances in heavy ion collisions at lower energies, the future heavy-ion program at CERN, and astrophysical objects in view of strangeness and heavy flavours are also described.
