Résumé :
Type Ia Supernovae gave the first strong evidence for the existence of dark energy, but are currently limited in their ability to further improve constraints by statistical and systematic uncertainties. Improved supernova modeling is one path through which these uncertainties can be addressed. I will present a set of new empirical models for Type Ia Supernovae developed with data from the Nearby Supernova Factory and describe the methodology used to build them. I will discuss the potential for lowering the amount of dispersion in supernova corrected magnitudes using these models, thus increasing the precision of SNe Ia as a cosmological tool and decreasing the possibility for systematic uncertainties. Finally, I will show simulations of the models’ performance on photometric data sets, which will determine their utility for surveys such as LSST.
