Description

The dominant decay modes of B mesons proceed via a b->c tree-level transition and should be dominated by Standard Model (SM) physics. However, b->u (tree) and b->d,s (penguin) transitions are heavily suppressed and offer sensitivity to new physics contributions. The latter class of transitions are of particular interest given the tensions with the SM seen in electroweak b->s,d penguin decays in the semileptonic sector; the study of charmless hadronic b-decays will allow a more complete picture to be drawn. I will introduce the theoretical and experimental context of these studies at the LHCb experiment, followed by the presentation of several recent results in this domain, some of them world-first observations. Finally, I will discuss future prospects for the study of these decays in LHCb and Belle 2.
