The EFT parametrization for DM searches at colliders has become notoriously unpopular, due to its incapability of describing new physics with light mediators. Simplified models have taken over. I will argue that the two points of view are instead complementary, and discuss large classes of theories (including naturally light Pseudo Goldstone bosons, Goldstini and composite DM), where the EFT is indeed necessary, but with a twist...
