Description
This seminar will focus on plasmonics, and more particularly on a peculiar mode called a gap-plasmon. This is the form light takes when it propagates in a tiny gap (as small as a few nanometers) between two metals. The properties of gap-plasmon optical resonators are actually attracting more and more attention nowadays. I will explain how we have tried to give a more physical explanation to the unusual behavior of gap-plasmon by using the energy point of view. In a second part, I will show that Drude's model, that is used to describe the metallic response in the framework of Maxwell's equations, is not perfectly accurate when it comes down to gap-plasmons. This suggested us a new kind of experiment, to better assess the limits of Drude's model, a key problem for nanophotonics.
