After its construction in the last years, the DESIR building was handed over to GANIL end of October 2025.
This was a big step for the DESIR project. We are now starting the preparation of equipment installation in the DESIR hall and envision the start of first experiments in 2027-8.
In 2024 and 2025, we have prepared the physics case of DESIR with a number of workshops:
- General DESIR workshop: Feb. 27 - March 1, 2024
- LUMIERE: July 2, 2024
- BESTIOL: December 16, 2024
- DETRAP: May 6, 2025
The next step is now the call for Letters of Intent (LOIs) for the first experiments in DESIR until about 2030.
This call includes experiments with SPIRAL1 and S3-LEB beams.
A workshop will take place on March 18 - 20, 2026 at the guest house of GANIL. The workshop will start with a presentation of the DESIR facility and the beams potentially available as well as the beam preparation in DESIR.

This first session is organised in collaboration with the ISOL-France community (see below). In the following days, the future users will present their ideas for experiments at DESIR. To prepare these LOIs, we will complete the present web pages with information about available beams and possible short-term developments. The workshop will be completed with a visit of the DESIR hall on Friday morning.
After this workshop, the following step will be a call for proposals in 2027.
At the binning of the week, an ISOL-France workshop will also take place at GANIL dedicated to DESIR, S3-LEB and ALTO as well as to ISOL-type experiments performed by the French community elsewhere.
The dead-line for abstract submission is February 15, 2026. Following this abstract submission, we will work out a detailed programme for the workshop. The indico pages will be updated in the following weeks. No fees are requested to participate in the workshop. DESIR will pay for your lunches at the GANIL restaurant and for the workshop dinner on Wednesday evening.
