Description

One of the most important test of the electroweak standard model is the unitary of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix which at present differs from more than two standard deviations. This is due to the value of Vud, the up-down element of the CKM matrix. The study of superallowed 0+ to 0+ nuclear beta decay , because of its simplicity, offers access to this value via the precise determination of the ft-value. Therefore the relative gamma-ray intensities are required to very high precision. Thus it’s crucial to have a precise efficiency calibration of the HPGe (High Purity Germanium) detector. A combination of Monte Carlo calculations (GEANT4) and source measurements is used to reach this goal.
